How to Maintain an Industrial Sewing Machine

Publish Time: 2024-04-19     Origin: Site

Industrial sewing machines are made to run longer and take more abuse than home sewing machines, but that doesn’t mean they can run forever. These machines require maintenance, too, and due to the amount of use and abuse they take, that maintenance has to happen more often than you might think.

If you use an industrial sewing machine for your business, the more care you give it now, the more years of peak sewing performance you’ll get. Let’s go over the various aspects of caring for your machine.

Keep clean

You may be surprised how dirty an industrial sewing machine has become! Over time, they will accumulate cotton fluff and dust, and you need to determine the area with the most accumulation. Firstly, wipe the outside of the machine to remove any dust and debris from the surface. Do not use irritating chemicals; You just need to use a piece of cloth to dry it easily. Then, check if there is any accumulated cotton wool on the spool and hook. You may need to open the needle board to enter this area. You can use compressed air to remove most of the debris, but using a cotton brush is more thorough. Next, check the tension plate and wire guide. Dust and lint will also accumulate there. Finally, check any connections to the machine, such as cables and jumpers. Check for potential corrosion that may require scrubbing.

Replacing worn parts timely

Firstly, the most obvious part that needs to be replaced is the needle. This will require replacement within a running time of 7 or 8 hours. When the needle continuously pierces through the material, it becomes blunt and may bend. If you ignore the warning sign, the needle may break after excessive use. When replacing the needle, unplug the machine from the wall. If this is not possible, at least make sure it has been turned off. The needle fixing screw can be loosened with a regular screwdriver. When installing a new needle, it should touch the top of the machine needle rod. The long groove on the needle faces left. Analyze the remaining parts of the machine for any other worn parts. Over time, any moving parts will wear out and require repair or replacement. Considering the running time and speed of the machine, this may be faster than you realize!

lubricating

To prevent premature wear and tear on industrial sewing machines, please make sure to refuel them regularly. Your machine should have refueling points marked on its surface, so you don't have to disassemble it. If you don't refuel, your sewing machine will eventually make noise during operation and then malfunction parts. Part failure is a bigger problem than hindering sewing; It actually poses a danger to people operating the machine. Just as you need to replace the needle after 7-8 hours, you should also refuel the machine after 7-8 hours. If your machine has an automatic lubrication system that uses an oil reservoir, you will be able to last longer between two lubrication refills. In fact, you can often go up to a year ago to change the oil! For manually oiling sewing machines, you only need to add 1 or 2 drops at the specified oiling point. If you have any questions, please refer to the machine manual or contact the manufacturer.
