Specifications
Industrial sewing machine needles are usually expressed in two numbers, the first number represents the thickness of the needle, called the number, usually 9, 11, 14, 16, etc.; the second number represents the length of the needle, called the needle length, usually 65, 70, 85, etc.. For example, a set of machine needle specification 11/75 means that the thickness of the needle for the number 11, the length of 75mm.
1. Ballpoint Needle
● Structural characteristics:
Needle tip is rounded and blunt ball-shaped to avoid piercing fibers.
● Application Scenario:
Knitted fabrics (e.g. T-shirts, sportswear): to reduce fiber breakage and prevent needle holes from enlarging.
● Typical needle gauge:
70/10 (ultra-thin knit)
90/14 (Medium-thick jersey fabric)
2. Sharp Needle
● Structural characteristics:
Sharp needle point, triangular or diamond-shaped cross-section.
● Application Scenario:
High-density woven fabrics (denim, canvas): precise penetration of fiber gaps.
Multi-layer stitching (work pants, bags): ensures penetration and reduces the risk of needle breakage.
● Special variants:
Leather point needle (Chisel Point): beveled cut design for leather/synthetic leather (e.g. shoe upper stitching).
● Typical needle gauges:
110/18 (12oz denim)
125/20 (car seat leather)
3. Tapered Needle
● Structural features:
Tapered needle tip to reduce puncture resistance.
● Application Scenario:
Thin synthetic leather (PU/PVC): to prevent material cracking.
Coated fabrics (waterproof jackets): to avoid peeling of the coating.
Industry use cases: sewing of outdoor equipment (tents, mountaineering bags).
● Typical needle size:
80/12 (0.8mm thick PU leather)
100/16 (1.2mm waterproof Oxford cloth)
4. Special material needles
● Titanium-coated needles:
Surface hardness up to HV2500, temperature resistance increased by 30%.
Applicable scenes: high friction materials (carbon fiber composite materials, Kevlar bulletproof fabric).
● Chrome-plated needles:
Reduces the friction heat of the seam by 40% and reduces the risk of melting threads.
Scenario: High-speed sewing on chemical fiber fabrics (polyester coveralls, nylon parachutes).
● Ceramic needles (experimental):
Used in semiconductor clean rooms to eliminate metal particle contamination.
5. Twin/Triple Needle
● Structural features:
2-3 needles arranged in parallel, spacing 1.6-6.4mm adjustable.
● VApplication Scenario:
Decorative stitch (shirt placket, jeans pocket flower).
● Functional stitching:
Medical protective clothing press tape (synchronized stitching + heat sealing).
Car seat belt double line reinforcement.
● Technical Requirements:
To be used with special bobbin case (e.g. Juki TL-98F double bobbin).
6. Curved Needle
● Structural characteristics:
Needle body is curved at 15°-30°.
● Application Scenario:
Three-dimensional curved surface sewing (car interiors, sofa armrests).
Narrow space work (airbag folding sewing).
● Industry standard:
ISO 134:2018 curved needle curvature grading system.
7. Anti-static Needle
● Technical principle:
needle bar plating resistance <10⁶Ω, grounding conductive static electricity.
● Application Scenario:
Dust-proof clothing for the electronics industry (semiconductor workshop).
Flammable dust environment (flour milling work clothes).
